Honestly there isn’t much I’d change about Google, so here is my Google 2.0. The biggest change I’d like to make to Google is adding a filters button. Everyday, people use Google to search for information regarding literally anything you can think of. Imagine having loads of information in the palm of your hands, why wouldn’t you just use it right? The problem is, there’s a TON of information. Whenever I start feeling sick or have a body pain, the first thing I do is Google my symptoms. If you’ve done this, you know sometimes you get the craziest answers and almost always, the Internet will tell you you have cancer. Now, thankfully for me this isn’t triggering but for others it can be. I think it would very helpful if Google had a page where you could insert your triggers or mental health disorder and Google will filter out anything that can hinder you.

I also added that I’m not too sure what the “I’m feeling lucky” button does but I would like Google 2.0 to let you decide a subject you’d like to learn more of. It could be anything (that cannot cause harm to you or anyone). You would do your own research at your own time and google will track it (google tracking your information-scary I know). Then in order to test yourself to see if you’ve retained vital information, you’d press the “I”m feeling lucky” button and google will create a small and fun quiz for you. At the end of the quiz, Google 2.0 could even give you suggestions of what you could do now with your new skill/information or where you can go to enhance these.

Lastly, I’d like to have a personalization button. Once you start searching on Google, it goes to its uniform white background. It would be nice to have your own customization and it would follow through in all of your searches unless you say otherwise.

Again, I’m a huge fan of google so these are the small changes I would make.

This is my google sports search engine for everything basketball.

I would invite basketball fans and lovers to try out the new sears bar. Get all the Nba streams so people can watch for free legal or illegally but we will keep that on the download. Also post all the Games that can be found on the internet.  It will also include College basketball games old and new as well as streamed. This would be a pure basketball search engine for basketball lovers.

It would be better because Nba streams can be very hard to come by for obvious reasons, and YouTube can offer only a handful or old basketball games. This search engine would be able to find any game that was recorded on the television and even the radio.

Are the tools of digital media impending or expanding our knowledge?

The digital media  in my opinion can do both, its not necessarily on the tools that’s presented in the media but more on us, the consumer determines whether it can expand or impend our knowledge. Some people use the tools for strictly research and information others choose to use it for purely entertainment and the other half use it for both. In my opinion theirs a lot of variables that needs to be assessed to get the proper answer.

       Search engines are very unique way of the internet and something that has made its way into big money. If I was to create a search engine I would want it to be something like reddit. Reddit is a community where people can post links , ask questions, meet people, and build communities. However one of the most important things on reddit is the post with the most up votes get shown first. That should be how search engines are because first off it would ended up finding the solution fastest, and in a way make people more involved into my website.
One of the things that I personally don’t like about these search engines is a lot of the first links that are shown are company’s or websites paying to be there. Yeah it might be a good solution but is it really the best one I’m looking for? I want to make it where the community are my devs and together we chose whats best. Together we’ll chose what goes first what goes last. That way we kind of have this common ground and it’s not just who has the most money.
Now I totally get from a business stand point that it’s not the best way To always make profit. However in my opinion the internet is at its best when you can actually have a reliable website and the people are in charge. People who are internet nerds per say would love something like this. A search engine that the people control.
Furthermore making a search engine like this would also help the small guys grow. Everybody nowadays what’s to make money of the internet wether it be by blog or streamer or anything, and a search engine such as this would help. Having a website where people can really decide want to put up first can help find potential in the websites or people that can actually be successful.

       To be honest it matters nobody and I mean nobody goes past the first page on google, yahoo, or even bing. It just doesn’t happen and to be on that first page is like marketing yourself made in heaven. Just imagine the possibilities for somebody from being a top choice on a very frequent google search, to answer it endless. Therefore to have it where people decide and it’s not pay to win is atleast in my mind Would make a tremendous search engine.

Search Engine:
If I was to create a search engine, I would make it very interactive. For example, I would have a 3 buttons below the search bar saying “news, weather and trending”. That way you can instantly check out what’s trending/what people are looking up, a weather button where when you hover over it it tells you the weather, and the news button to check your daily briefing. When you look something up, there is also a word of the day and quote of the day next to what you look up as well. It would be called “Letmelook”

Reading:
Digital media is the main reason why information spreads because it’s part of our daily lives and we use it for a lot of things. Digital media is any form of media that uses electronic devices for distribution. This form of media can be created, viewed, modified and distributed via electronic devices. Digital media is used through software, video games, videos, websites, social media, and online advertising. It’s good to rely on digital media, but at the same time it is not. It’s not because if we start to believe that digital media is real life, then we start to lose in touch with real life. I agree and disagree with this post.

Search Engine:

The title of my search engine would be called CreateIY which would mean create it yourself. This search engine would lets users who make an account use all the resources the account provides and give users the chance to search up and upload different projects, recipes, and home decor ideas to the site and also gives them the chance to try others peoples creations. The search engine would also use your location and connect you to other CreateIY-ers that live in your area. To ensure users safety, we would use a software that will make sure that real users with good intentions are using the site. One thing that will make this site even more unique is giving users the option to create their own page and eventually their own website to further show off their unique creations.

Reading:

I believe for the most part that the tools of digital media is responsible for expanding out knowledge because it is key to our everyday life where we use if for pretty much anything. Our digital tools are responsible for keeping us on track and prepared for the day and as time goes on, it becomes more and more beneficial to our lives. But there comes a point to where it can even be close to ruining ones life forever. One example where we see digital media ruining lives comes from the New York Times article where a woman named Stacy Snyder’s life came crashing down after she was denied her teaching degree days before her graduation due to old pictures that appeared on her social media page. These photos which had nothing to do with her career and honestly didn’t give her a “bad look” since its normal to go out for drinks caused damage to her career that could not be fixed. Overall, the main idea I took from this article was its bet to be careful and not post everything on social media because nothing is ever deleted from there. I do still believe that digital media tools do help us a lot with our daily lives and keeps us entertained aside from the fact that it can also cause short attention spans unfortunately.

I believe that the tools of digital media is doing both impeding and expanding our knowledge. The reason why I say it is impeding it is because one relies on media for everything. To be honest the last time I believe I actually checked on a family member in person would be a few month ago. When having media in our hands we may say we are checking on people but physically we are not. It is like what the New York Times article, “The Web Means the World is Ending”, “now that so many people use a single platform to post constant status updates and photos about their private and public activities, the idea of a home self, a work self, a family self and a high-school-friends self has become increasingly untenable.” One has created a life on the internet that cannot be made in physical world. Another thing would be like privacy. There are instances and sayings in which people would say be careful what you put out in the Internet; anyone can see it. In the article “Data Mining 111: Finding Subversives with Amazon Wishlist”, Tom Oward says “Amazon Wishlist lets anyone bookmark books for later purchase. By default, these lists are public and available to anybody who searches by name. If the Wishlist creator specifies a shipping address, someone else can even purchase the book on Amazon and have it shipped directly as a gift.” One is not safe even in websites they believe that can be harmless to their safety. Then when I say that the tools of digital media are expanding our knowledge is because everything is from our fingertips. One is able to speak without having any restrictions. In the article, “The Lo(n)g Revolution: The Blogosphere as an Alternative Public Sphere?”, it said “Blogging breaks down the barriers between public and privates’ spaces and allows elected representatives to put across their individuality and personality.”

The existence of digital media tools are helping the expansion of our knowledge, that is if we use it for good. What is defined as “good” though? Well, for everyone, “good” would obviously mean you’re not using these tools to commit crimes such as murder or even something like terrorism. Just like you shouldn’t use a knife to murder but rather to cook a delicious steak for dinner. But how can something like this help expand our knowledge? Well, thinking about the internet on general, it creates a bridge for everyone that wasn’t there previously. You never would have expected a professor from West Canada to communicate with another professor from Southern India about their thoughts in alternative energy. Previous to the internet, you only communicated via mail and telephone. And even then, you needed the other party’s information such as their number or address and mail would take time to reach its destination. With the help of the internet and digital media tools, anyone can join in on the conversation and provide insight that no one else would have thought about. In recent years, the internet has expanded tremendously with billions of users online and serverloads of data being generated everyday, it’s impossible to say there isn’t a chance you can learn something from visiting a site. However, it would be understandable to think why someone would oppose digital media as it allows anyone to easily access data about a person to make pressumptions. Jeffrey Rosen writes about the Web’s influence on how people will never be able to forget things. After all, nothing ever gets deleted from the internet. Rosen claims a Microsoft survey revealed “Seventy percent of U.S. recruiters report that they have rejected candidates because of information found online, like photos and discussion-board conversations and membership in controversial groups.” With the extreme accessability of information posted onto the internet, it’s hard to make sure people have the correct assumption of you and that’s why some rely on services like ReputationDefender and TigerText, that go about purging your online footsteps. What’s to say you forgot you made some silly mistake when you were young and your recruiters for a top-level position takes that into account during your hiring?

For me, I did not go an entire week without using social media. I have a facebook  but I don’t use it. I have them because a few years ago, they required you to have a facebook in order to use the ‘Messenger’ app. In terms of twitter, I do use it and it was difficult to just give it up because twitter is a window to the chaotic out side world. I use twitter to see what is going on, like if there is a wild fire in Australia. Twitter was a way for me to be caught up on what other people are talking about and to not be on twitter almost makes me feel like I am severely disconnected. If a friend texts me about if I heard about how Tesla was going to the moon, it feels as though I am not apart of society. This same feeling occurs with emails. Emails are so incredibly important and are so ingrained in our society and life that if I don’t check my emails, it really makes me feel anxious. When i can’t check my email, I am disconnected and I don’t know if a teacher has sent me homework. So yeah, I really wouldn’t be able to not check my email.
